Magic went into this game as clear underdogs with the Wallyboks looking to secure a top 2 finish and the Magic trying desperately to avoid the wooden spoon.
Before the match the fans had been eagerly awaiting the results of the scan from star new recruit Joe (Rooney) Sharps hand but as he emerged from the surgery in Manchester it was clear from the look on his face the bus shelter had much bigger bite then the doctors had expected.
Nevertheless the Magic came out firing in the first half frustrating the oposition with their much priased defensive skills with Bee and Michele making some crucial touches, but their attack once again let them down. Preasuring the line on a number of occassions but unable to break thru as their attack within the 5 meter mark looked more like a line dancing contest at a Country and Western parade then the V shaped formation required to run at and break the top sides.
The Wallboks too seemed below their usual form and did little to inspire untill late in the half when they manage to slice open the magic line and score a crucial try. We then had a 15minute pause for the ref to get his shit together..!
Magic tried to hit back with some fancy moves in the dying stages by Becs and Liz to put them close in the corner but it was not to be and they went in half time trailing 1-0.
The second half started evenly but early on in the piece the Wallyboks started to use their run and passing to expose the gaps in the Magic defence and assert their dominance increasing the lead to 3-0. The Magic seemed unable to respond and the frustration begain to show, Golden Boots looked more like Golden skates spending more time diving into the oppositions cruch then over the try line, Liz started to let fly at the ref creating friction and Simon exercising his muscle with some heavy touches on the skinny oposition.
True to form Dale and Glen continued to push the opposition controlling the 3 man run ups and looking to create gaps, depsite now trailing 4-0, and Dazzler looking dangerous but unable to find a link for his runs. They finally manage to put it together and steam rolled the opposition back behind the try line with some high speed runs leaving Elvis wide open near the try line and just like back stage with a bunch of groupies there was no way the King was gonna miss out on scoring...!
The game finished 4-1 with the Wallboks cementing their top 2 spot and the Magic left looking towards a wooden spoon playoff. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall in the pub hearing what the Magic had to say after a few pints had gone down.... but maybe some times whats said at the pub is best left in the pub....????
Play of the day must go to the big fella who once again came through and managed to score some extra sausage rolls at the pub..!
